Andrew Stanton to Direct ‘Toy Story 5’ with McKenna Harris Co-Directing

Pixar’s Toy Story 5 hits theaters in June 2026, and after much speculation, we have confirmation that Andrew Stanton will be the Director and McKenna Harris will be co-directing.

Pixar’s CCO, Pete Docter, revealed the news during a recent trip to Japan while doing press for Inside Out 2.

According to CinemaToday Japan, Docter noted, “The film was written by Andrew Stanton, who wrote the screenplays for all of the Toy Story movies and also directed Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, and WALL-E, along with McKenna Harris. I’m supervising it,” he said, revealing that the project is currently underway.

“I just saw a preview of the version that was in the middle of production last week,” Doctor said with a smile, “It’s really fun (lol), I think they found a new way to do some really fun things with the characters and the world of Toy Story,” he said. As for what the audience can expect from the film, he laughed: “It’s a surprise. I can’t spoil the surprise.”

You may recall that in our latest Pixar Post Podcast, we teased that we had heard rumblings of this news a bit ago, but without confirmation, we didn’t want to state it as fact.

Now that the news is official we are beyond excited about Andrew Staton’s return to the Pixar director’s chair and can’t wait to see more from Kenna (as she calls herself) Harris.

Previously, Kenna was the Story Lead for Luca and also directed the short, Ciao Alberto.
