Along with the recent news of the new Pixar film, Gatto and details from Hoppers, Pixar also revealed some new updates for Toy Story 5.
This year’s Annecy International Film Festival (June 13, 2025) was something special for Pixar fans. Pete Docter took to the stage and revealed a new piece of concept artwork by Carlos Felipe León, and then screened the first two minutes of the film.

As seen in the new concept art above, the character, Lily Pad, is introduced. Docter said in a recent article (via People) that, “It’s a new tech tablet that allows Bonnie to chat with her friends and play games and other things, too. But Lily can also be a bit sneaky and prickly to be around, because in her mind, it’s a lot better to be socialized, and Bonnie needs to move on from toys. Woody is called back to help, but it’s been a while since they’ve all seen each other — and he and Buzz don’t always see eye to eye, as Mr. Potato Head says in the movie, [but] it’s nice to see them arguing again.”
Side note – We can’t help but feel that Lily Pad is a play on the popular LeapPad by the LeapFrog company – a typical tablet-style device that is like a scaled-down iPad.
Docter noted that since Woody is now gone (with Bo Peep), Jessie is the group leader of Bonnie’s room (with Buzz, as Assistant Deputy helping along). Bonnie Anderson has grown up a little bit (she was 6 in the fourth installment) and is now 8 years old. Her interest is shifting from more traditional toys to technology.
TOY STORY 5 CLIP
As noted in our Hoppers post, our friend, Drew Taylor (The Wrap), was in attendance at Annecy, and we highly recommend checking out his full write-up of the two-minute Toy Story 5 clip. He gives a proper spoiler warning, and we’ll offer one as well.

The clip shown follows the visual tone of the concept art by Carlos Felipe León above. The film starts inside Buzz’s helmet as he scans the sandy horizon (like when he first wakes up on Andy’s bed in the first film). He is alone until he spots a beached shipping container on an island shore. After pressing the new high-tech screen on his chest plate, other Buzz figures emerge.
The Buzz figures are lost and find themselves sitting around a campfire, muttering “Star Command.” They fashion poorly made boats, all while chanting “Star Command,” and appear in other silly scenarios on the island. The scene closes by panning upward and flashing the familiar Toy Story logo, emblazoned with a 5.
