Pixar Wrap-Up from the 2026 D23 Expo Fan Event – Ghost Market, Gatto, Incredibles 3 and Coco 2

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event occurred from August 14-16, 2026, showcasing exciting Pixar film updates. Announcements included Incredibles 3, Coco 2, Gatto, and Ghost Market – read all about the updates of the films releasing through 2029.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event took place this past weekend from August 14-16, 2026, in Anaheim, California.

After reading and watching all of the excitement from the weekend, we wanted to share summaries of the Pixar feature-film news shared at the event. We’ll also share some of our thoughts, too.

As a side note, our friends at Laughing Place shared a video of the main presentation to supplement this post (Pixar presentation starts at 15:50).

Be aware that the video above edits out the clips shared during the event (as the Expo requested). I’m not going to link to them here, but you can search for them (and find them) on social media and YouTube if you want! 😉

40 YEARS OF PIXAR

Kicking off the event, Pete Docter came on stage and highlighted the recent successes of Toy Story 5 and Hoppers, but quickly got to the news about the upcoming films.

INCREDIBLES 3

2026 D23 Expo reveal of the Incredibles 3 concept artwork. Mr. Incredible is holding up a giant orb above him (maybe an omni droid) while he stops people from getting crushed - it may be a staged photoshoot with all the cameras and lighting in the background.

THE DETAILS

Announced at the 2024 D23 event, the film received a brief update regarding the story. We learned that the whole family is back, along with Frozone and Edna Mode!

Winston Deavor will also return, and he has started the “Superhero League”, a heavily marketed and sponsored group organized around the now-legal supers.

This film will let the kids take center stage, with Violet and Dash trying to prove that they are ready to be real superheroes.

We were most excited when Pete noted that not all supers are good and flashed an image of a menacing-looking set of angular white shapes against a back background.

Screenslaver was great in Incredibles 2, but we hope this new “bad guy” really unlocks the ability to take Incredibles 3 into a darker and more intense storyline.

THE TEAM & RELEASE DATE

Incredibles 3 is directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Dana Murray and Brad Bird, and releases exclusively in theaters on June 16, 2028.

COCO 2

2026 D23 Expo concept artwork of Miguel Rivera who is now a teenager. He is walking with Dante with Ernesto's guitar slung around his back.

THE DETAILS

Docter next shared some additional details regarding Coco 2 and was joined on stage by the voice of Ernesto de la Cruz, Benjamin Bratt.

Wait, Ernesto is back? Yes, I guess it kind of makes sense. You can’t really experience the final death in the land of the dead until you’re forgotten. So, even though he was crushed by a bell again, he can just “reanimate” because he is still known in the land of the living. This is pretty cool: a villain you literally cannot get rid of.

The sequel picks up a few years after the first film, and although Ernesto is back for revenge, Miguel and Ernesto have to work together in some regard. Very intriguing.

THE TEAM & RELEASE DATE

Coco 2 reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen is the producer, and Coco 2 will debut exclusively in theaters on November 21, 2029.

THE DETAILS

Although not many new story points were shared during the event, TWO clips/teasers were shown to the crowd. Again, they are both fantastic, and it’s up to you if you want to seek them out online, but the look of the film is just wonderful (with the painterly look).

For more details on Gatto, check out our Gatto Archives page.

THE TEAM & RELEASE DATE

Gatto is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren and will premiere in theaters on March 5, 2027.

GHOST MARKET

THE DETAILS

Pete Docter also officially unveiled Ghost Market, a story about a perpetually online teenage influencer named Kyle (from Chicago) who is forced to go on a family vacation to Hawaii, and shared the following clip (in vertical format, of course).

The official Disney website also offered the following details on the film.

“A clip from the film was shown in-room that introduces audiences to ʻOno Market, a little plate lunch shop hidden away in a remote location on Oʻahu’s North Shore that serves lost spirits, stuck between life and death. The living have never set foot in this place — until a fast-talking kid named Kyle blunders in and finds himself on an unexpected supernatural adventure.”

‘ONO MEANING

One thing that caught my eye was the name ‘Ono when seeing the film’s concept art. After a little digging around, it appears that a Hawaiian dictionary notes that ‘ono (important to include the apostrophe) means:

Delicious, tasty, savory; to relish, crave; deliciousness, flavor, savor.

(Without the apostrophe, it’s a fish.)

So it’s really neat to see that this market seems to offer ghosts a chance to eat what they craved when they were alive.

THE GHOST/COCO ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

OK, OK, you can’t see this film and not think of Coco 2, which also explores realms between the living and the dead. We’ll have to wait and see how the two films are similar or different, but on the surface, it is something people have noticed and are discussing online.

CHARACTER DESIGN

I am also intrigued to see more from this film from a character-design standpoint. This character continues to show how Pixar is diverging from previous designs.

We’ll hold our full thoughts until we can see more, but this definitely has us intrigued on the overall look of this film.

THE TEAM & RELEASE DATE

Ghost Market is directed by Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews, produced by Becky Neiman-Cobb, and dated for theatrical release on March 10, 2028.

  1. Well, it’s confirmed that the “ONO Ghost Market” movie is coming in 2028, but they decided to change the title to “Ghost Market.” As for the other projects, they’re no longer confirmed, nor have they announced anything for the summer of 2027.

Perhaps in the next two years we’ll see more D23 broadcasts confirming when things will be announced, including the 30th anniversary of “A Bug’s Life” in 2028.

And so, thanks to YouTube user iLeorju for making this nine-year-old expectation a reality.
