Shortly after the November (U.S.) release of Coco in theaters, retailers began adding pre-order options for the film online. Among those retailers, Target (link removed, the Target exclusive version is no longer for sale) recently listed Coco with a release date of February 27.
Of course, this isn’t an official announcement from Pixar so we’ll have to wait and see if this is in fact the official date — but Target has been correct in a few instances previously.
Between Best Buy (Exclusive Steelbook edition – shown above), Target (exclusive storybook edition – shown below), and Blu-ray.com, we are getting a closer look at what may also be the covers as well.
Assuming the 4K Ultra HD cover remains the same (first seen on Blu-ray.com – shown as the lead image for the post), it is a gorgeous shelf-popping cover, and we really enjoy the inclusion of the fireworks in the top corners.
It should also be noted that Disney and Pixar have typically been releasing the digital version approximately three weeks ahead of the physical release (via Movies Anywhere and other online retailers). Again, assuming February 27 is the correct release date for the physical copy, this would mean the digital release could come as soon as February 6 — just one month away.
When the films are released varies from film to film, but only since The Good Dinosaur have we seen in-home dates as early as three months after the theatrical release. What do you think? Will February 27 be the date, or is the film still holding strong in theaters pushing the release date back further?
