Pixar — Check. Buzz Lightyear — Check. Sci-Fi Action/Adventure Film — Check.
During the December 10 Disney Investor Event, Pete Docter announced an epic, sci-fi adventure that will give us the back story of the human movie character who inspired the space ranger toy from Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear. The film (with an amazing title), Lightyear will see Chris Evans (Captain America, himself) voicing the human movie star.
Check out the title teaser which premiered during the event — we are so excited for this film.

“At first glance, you might think, ‘this is a Toy Story film.’ Well, not so fast! See, back when we created the first Toy Story, we designed Buzz Lightyear with the idea that he was a toy based on some really cool character from an epic blockbuster film. Well, all these years later we decided it’s time to make that film.
Directed by Pixar vet Angus MacLane (co-director of Finding Dory), Lightyear is the definitive origin story of the original Buzz Lightyear and it reveals how this young test pilot became the space ranger we all know him to be today.”
OUR THOUGHTS
We couldn’t help but wonder if this was the long-rumored sci-fi film which ex-Pixarian, Mark Andrews was working on at one point, or if that was a completely different idea. In any regard, my personal passion for Buzz Lightyear has got me completely excited for this film, and we can’t wait for additional details to come — we love the edginess that the film is portraying.
Although the film is simply noted with a Summer 2022 release date, Disney had announced their slate of official dates earlier in the year. With that in mind, we would anticipate this film would release on June 17, 2022.

CREW NOTES
DIRECTOR: Angus MacLane. Angus is the co-director of Finding Dory, Toy Story of TERROR! director, BURN•E director, Small Fry director, and countless other Pixar projects since he started in 1997.
PRODUCER: Galyn Susman. Galyn has a long history with Pixar, having worked there before the release of the first Toy Story film and serving most recently as the Producer of Toy Story 4. Interestingly, Galyn was the Producer for the Angus-Directed projects, BURN•E and Toy Story of TERROR!, so their working relationship is already strong and should translate well to Lightyear.
