During the December 10 Disney Investor Event, Pete Docter announced an original feature film with a fresh and unique take on a coming of age tale titled, Turning Red. Directed by Academy Award-winner Domee Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins, Turning Red follows Mei Lee a confident, yet dorky 13-year old girl torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence that has plagued us all.
“As if changes to Mei’s interests, relationships, and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which for a teenager is practically ALWAYS), she ‘poofs’ into a giant red panda!”

OUR THOUGHTS
Our excitement for Turning Red is abundant; not only is the storyline relatable, but have you seen how incredible the red panda looks?! Since we first learned that Domee Shi would direct a feature film (back in May 2018), we have been anxiously awaiting news and updates. We can’t wait for additional details to start rolling in, including vocal cast, music credits, character design/production design leads, etc. Hopefully, we don’t “turn red” while we wait for more news on this exciting new film.
Turning Red is set to hit theaters in the Spring of 2022.
