The first official Cars 3 Teaser Trailer has just been released and it will have your heart pounding! Clocking in at just under a minute, the teaser showcases a completely different look than the previous two Cars films — with an intense gritty feel to the lighting (with ominous grayish-green tones) and incredible use of camera angles and editing, we’re left wanting more.

While the teaser shows glimpses of racers from the original Cars film, it does appear that there are a few new racers sprinkled in as well – including perhaps, our first look at the new high-tech rookie, Jackson Storm (shown above).

The teaser is certainly in-line with what we had previously heard about the film. Back in May 2016, Cars 3 Director, Brian Fee sat down with USA Today and shared where Lighting McQueen would be today.

“Think of where he’d be in his career now in real-time — (McQueen) is not an old man, but he’s one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire.” The conversation of McQueen’s retirement status comes into focus after he gets badly beaten in a race by the new rookie sensation, Jackson Storm. After the loss, McQueen starts training with Ramirez in the off-season to prepare for the crème de la crème race, the Florida 500.

I’ll admit, it’s hard to watch Lightning crash like that — he’s such an iconic character that it will be tough to watch him falter like this. The teaser is correct when it says, “From this moment, everything will change”. Share your thoughts on the teaser in the Pixar Post Cars 3 Forum discussion.
