Dolby Laboratories and Walt Disney Studios have just announced their collaboration to bring the new technology of Dolby Vision to Dolby Cinema locations to enhance your moviegoing experience. The official Dolby Labs press release reveals the technological breakthroughs of the new Dolby Vision – which include a projection system featuring the use of state-of-the-art optics and image processing to deliver enhanced color and contrast ratio that far exceeds any existing image technology on the market today. Thus, allowing the filmmakers to use the full gamut of colors, peak highlights, greater brightness, and amazing contrast, with the confidence that those will be reproduced faithfully on cinema screens that feature Dolby Vision.
Our studio and our filmmakers put so much into creating high-quality, immersive experiences for audiences, and that includes using the latest, cutting-edge technology to enhance the stories we tell,” said Dave Hollis, Executive Vice President, Theatrical Distribution, The Walt Disney Studios. “Disney has been a longtime collaborator of Dolby, and we’re excited for the continued storytelling possibilities that technologies like Dolby Cinema deliver.
Collaborating back in 2010 for the release of Pixar’s Toy Story 3, Dolby Surround 7.1 was introduced to deliver superior sound. Then again in 2012, the launch of Dolby Atmos which featured “movement in the audio” (including many overhead speakers) to immerse theatergoers into the film, Brave was the first film featured in this format. While there has yet to be a list of cities that will first feature Dolby Vision, we have our fingers crossed that it will be close by so we can experience this breakthrough new technology firsthand.
