Pixar’s upcoming outer space adventure, Elio, has quietly shifted its release day one week back to June 20, 2025. This is the second date change for the film, though this change is probably for strategic purposes.
Originally slated to release on March 1, 2024, Elio was pushed back due to a Hollywood strike. Upon the official announcement, the film was moved to June 13, 2025. Now, the film received a one-week bump to June 20, 2025.

COMPETITIVE DATE CHANGE
It has been speculated that the move was made to avoid releasing the same weekend as the 2025 How to Train Your Dragon (HTTYD) film (which holds the June 13 release date, too). The live-action remake of HTTYD was initially slated to release on March 14, 2024, but was pushed back due to the strike, as well.
Pixar announced the Elio date shift on October 25, 2024. A week later, on November 1, 2024, Universal/DreamWorks announced the date move for HTTYD. Who knows, maybe a little bit of pushing for release date dominance was going on between the studios.
