Pixar continues to celebrate diversity by showcasing stories and voices that everyone can identify with, from the studio’s first African American lead with Joe Gardner in Soul, the loving kiss between Greg and Jim in the SparkShort, Out to the different perspectives of Autism shown in both SparkShorts Loop and Float.
Coming soon, it appears that Pixar will soon add to their list of inclusion as the studio is on a search for their first transgender role. The news was spotted in a recent tweet from Trans March, where they shared a casting announcement from Pixar Animation Studio (see below). In the tweet, Trans March confirmed the notice is from Pixar,
…We talked to the casting director, and they sent us this flyer. They’re reaching out to other orgs as well, but we got the sense we’re the first to post about it.
The official casting announcement notes the character’s name as Jess, a 14-year old transgender girl who is compassionate, funny, and always has your back. While news on the unknown project is still under wraps, we imagine it could be for an upcoming SparkShort film. We truly cannot wait to hear more about this story and perhaps the personal ties/connections with the filmmakers, and we are thrilled to see more inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.
