Pixar Artists Offer How-To-Draw Tutorials on Characters from ‘Onward’ and ‘Toy Story 4’

Stuck at home? Learn to draw Pixar characters from Pixar artists – including Disney characters from a Disney animator.

Just because we’re staying at home right now, doesn’t mean that there isn’t fun to be had. When the stay-at-home order was issued in early March, we had our fingers-crossed that Pixar would release a few drawing tutorials – not just for our own amusement but for our art-loving kindergarten-aged son.

Well, Pixar has delivered in a big way! As of today, there have been a total of 4 character tutorials, Ian Lightfoot, Barley Lightfoot, Laurel Lightfoot, and Duke Caboom. The three contributing artists Story Supervisor Kelsey Mann, Story Artist Louise Smythe, and Animator Emilie Goulet have each taken time out of their busy work-at-home schedules and have created a fun way to interact with fans and of course, teach us how to draw some of our new favorite characters and learn some fun insights into the characters as well.

Grab your blank paper, pencils, and sharpies and watch the embedded videos below. Be sure to share your drawings with us by tagging us on our social media channels as we’d love to see your work!

Updated April 24 – Now including How-to-Draw Lighting McQueen Tutorial from Story Artist, Scott Morse, and How-to-Make an Onward Flipbook (feat. Blazey) with Animator, Mike Stern.

DISNEY THEMED TUTORIALS

In addition, Disney animator Michael Woodside has been holding daily drawing tutorials focusing on new and classic Disney characters (see the embedded video below). Be sure to visit his Instagram page for times and watch along on his YouTube channel.
