Early this morning the nominations for the 88th Annual Academy Awards were released with Pixar receiving three nominations for Best Animated Short Film (Sanjay’s Super Team), Best Animated Feature (Inside Out), and Best Original Screenplay (Inside Out).
We are thrilled to have Pixar return to the Best Original Screenplay category as previous nominations include, Up, Ratatouille, and Wall-e (to name a few).
Unfortunately, Inside Out was overlooked for the Best Picture category as well as The Good Dinosaur‘s exclusion from the Best Animated Feature category. Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur were also both excluded for Best Original Score, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing – nominations we thought would have been very well deserved.
Sanjay’s Super Team advanced in the Best Animated Short Film category along with Bear Story, Prologue, We Can’t Live Without Cosmos, and World of Tomorrow. From a historical standpoint, Pixar has won the Best Animated Short Film category three times for Tin Toy (1988), Geri’s Game (1997) and For The Birds (2001) – let’s hope Sanjay’s makes this the fourth victory.

The Best Original Screenplay category includes Inside Out, Bridge of Spies, Ex Machina, Straight Outta Compton, and Spotlight.
The Best Animated Feature category includes Inside Out, Anomalisa, Boy and The World, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and When Marnie Was There.
Below is a summary of the Animated Feature Film history with the Academy Awards.
