Cars Land in Disney’s California Adventure has immersed guests into the ‘World of Cars’ since its grand opening back in 2012. The widely popular “land” features shops, restaurants, and themed experiences set along the iconic Route 66, including three ride attractions – Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Radiator Springs Racers, and Luigi’s Flying Tires. While the “Mater” and “Racer” attractions continue to draw large crowds, rumors have been swirling over the future of Luigi’s Flying Tires as the attraction has had its share of speed bumps.
Today Disney Parks Blog announced that Luigi’s Flying Tires would be closing on February 16, to be re-imagined into a completely new attraction opening in early 2016. While full details have yet to be released the official concept art showcases new ride vehicles on what appears to be a trackless/turntable-less system. Disney also mentioned that the newly designed attraction will use updated technology. We wondered if the system will also be utilized on a Shanghai Disney attraction, as both are set to open in 2016.

Bummer you won't be able to ride it one last time…but hey, at least that issue will be overlooked quickly as you'll be able to enjoy the entirety of Cars Land!!
Nice! Yah I had hear rumblings about that for a while now…but the close date is fast approaching and very sudden! That means it won't be open when we go there in April- thought I would catch the original ride one last time before it got redone! It'll be interesting to see what this know version will be like. It's hard to tell from the concept art exactly how the ride will operate. Thanks for the heads up on this!
