Walt Disney World Publicity and Entertainment Weekly have just released new photos from the highly anticipated Monsters University.
“This is roughly around the time Mike and Sulley meet,” says director Dan Scanlon, who made the Cars short Mater and the Ghostlight. “They’re at a fraternity party, and this is Mike and Sulley getting off on the wrong foot a little bit.”
The movie reveals that they started out as enemies, constantly one-upping each other with elaborate practical jokes. The other creature clutched in Sulley’s paws is a mascot-like figure, sort of a freaky version of a goat (note the horizontal pupils), as noted by EW.
“It’s the monster equivalent of a farm animal. It is not a student,” Scanlon explains. “This is part of a college prank.”
The second image appears to be Mike on his first day of school, sporting a Monsters University hat that is still for purchase on the official Monsters University website.
“We get to show off their differences,” said Monsters University producer Kori Rae. “They both approach life in different ways. Mike is the go-getter type, anything is possible, and he’s the super-hard worker. Sulley is different because he’s a great scarer, he has this natural ability, but Mike has to work for it.”
The storyline of Monsters University is so imaginative, yet relatable. The fact that we can revisit these beloved characters and go on their college-bond journey (filled with ups and downs) is no doubt going to bring back those “college-day” memories.
