Partysaurus Rex – New Toy Story Short Revealed

Partysaurus Rex Screencap Announcement

Partysaurus Rex has officially been announced! Whew, we can breathe a sigh of relief now. About three weeks ago we were informed about additional details (that the Toy Story Toon would play before the re-release of Finding Nemo in theaters on September 14, 2012), but alas we were asked not to say anything!

Entertainment Weekly broke the news of the new short produced by the Pixar Canada team. In fact, Pixarian @Jewellbsorry (with Pixar Canada) tweeted this today –

In this short, the trusty and jittery Rex joins Bonnie (his new owner since Andy gifted the Toy Story gang to her) for a bath-time play session. Mark Walsh (director and long-time Pixar animator) said, “if you’re a bath toy you get really intense playtime. It’s like a party. Then when the water goes down, you can move. You’re helpless. And that’s pathetic, these guys in the bottom of the tub all the time.”

Well don’t worry, that’s where Rex comes into play – see, the other bath toys don’t have arms so Rex and his puny T-rex arms turn on the water and that’s when the…uh…party really starts and the music starts thumping. We’re sure hilarity will ensue!

To add to the authenticity of the short, Pixar brought on veteran electronic/dance artist BT to handle the score for the short (check out additional details from our May 27 post). From BT’s excitement and energy, I’m sure it will surely help take the short to a new level.

The plot of the short really helps bring everything together and explains the Partysaurus Rex bath toy that was revealed in our June 28 post. In fact, thanks to Daniel from Pixar Geek, he took complete photos of the toy that you can now find at Target stores.

Pixar also released a YouTube clip today of an existing Finding Nemo scene alongside the announcement to dually promote the September 3D theater release.
