This year, during the 2024 D23 Expo, Disney announced that a new Monster’s Inc. land (Monsteropolis) and rollercoaster would be coming to Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort. The new concept art showcased Monstropolis in an area that looked precisely like the location of the MuppetVision 3D show. Many die-hard Muppet fans worried that the Muppets 3D show might get the boot; well, we now have answers to that burning question.
While Muppets may be exiting their existing area of Hollywood Studios, they won’t be going far; just down Sunset Blvd., they will find their new home with a re-theming of Rocking Rollercoaster to now include the Muppets. While no date for the rethemeing has been announced, Disney stated that Monstropolis construction will begin in 2025.
Now, onto the exciting news of Monstropolis, we can hardly contain ourselves – from the new coaster, new restaurant, and more!

Monsters, Inc. Suspended Door Coaster
The new suspended rollercoaster will have guests sitting in the ride vehicle while their legs dangle off the ground and whisk in and out of the Monster’s Inc. door vault. During the D23 announcement, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Harryhausen’s Replacing Mama Melrose?
In the newly released concept art, you can see the infamous Harryhausen’s. This rendering is exactly where the current restaurant, Mama Melrose, is located. So, could this mean we are about to get another Pixar-themed dining location at Hollywood Studios? We hope they include an animatronic sushi chef!
Monstro Theater
According to Disney, the old MuppetVision 3D location will be rethemed and will house a new show. However, no further details were announced.
Monstropolis City Center
The concept art showcases a new Monster’s Inc. fountain, a possible photo opportunity with Mike’s new car, and a billboard with Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor. Could this tiny detail mean that the Laugh Floor could be moving from the Magic Kingdom to Hollywood Studios?
There are so many exciting things to keep speculating about with this new Pixar-themed land, and one thing’s for sure: we’ll keep you posted on all the details when they become available. For now, chat with other Pixar fans in the Pixar Post Forum and share your thoughts on the Monsteropolis expansion.
