In December 2020, during the Disney Investor Day call, Pete Docter announced that Pixar was working on their first original animated series, Win or Lose, coming to Disney+ in the Fall of 2023. Producer David Lally shared a brand new title card/logo for the series on his Instagram page, teasing that Pixar will share more information during the D23 Expo this weekend (September 9-11).

It was announced on stage during the D23 Expo that Will Forte will play a character named Coach Dan.

Win or Lose will be a long-form series that will follow the story of a coed middle school softball team (The Pickles) during the week leading up to a big championship game. Each 20-minute episode will feature a different character’s perspective during the same week. This creative concept is the brainchild of two Pixar story artists, Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, who would often feel completely different emotions from attending the same meetings.

“It’s not so much about softball as it is a comedy about love, rivalry, and the challenges we all face in our struggles to win at life.”

Pete Docter
