In the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine (August 18, 2017) Pixar’s upcoming film, Coco, is highlighted along with many others in the special edition 2017 Fall Preview.
We were thrilled to learn a few new details about the film and were likewise wowed by the gorgeous new image (spread across two full pages). The image shows Miguel (with guitar) and Hector soaring high above the eye-popping land of the dead — be sure to notice the beautiful lighting details and the imaginative architecture (arches).
The article also expands on some details surrounding the fun-loving, Hector. Although he is a trickster according to Gael Garcia Bernal (Hector’s vocal actor), he struggles with his own issues as well — “Most men now want to be close to their kids, but three generations ago, that wasn’t incorporated in society.” Bernal goes on to describe Hector noting that he’s, “almost like Baloo in the Jungle Book. He’s confident, but he’s having a very deep existential problem.”
Director, Lee Unkrich also provided some additional details and fun facts about the project, noting humorously, “Whatever your job was in life, that’s still your job in the afterlife — for better or worse.” This fact will probably lead to some hilarious bits in the land of the dead and we can’t wait to see how it will unfold.
