As the Toy Story franchise came to a close in movie theaters in 2010, Pixar was seeking additional avenues to continue to allow audiences to enjoy some of their most celebrated characters – like Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang. October 16, 2013, saw the release of Pixar’s first television special, Toy Story of TERROR!, which was met with overwhelming success. The special, directed by Angus MacLane will see a Blu-ray release packed with special features on August 19, 2014, a book released on July 22, 2014, and even saw a special toy set with Combat Carl released as well.
Fans of the first special didn’t have to wait long as Pixar announced in January of 2014 that they would also be producing a second special titled, Toy Story That Time Forgot. After some engaging discussions on our Forum, we found what we believe is a connection to a certain Edgar Rice Burroughs book titled, The Land That Time Forgot. We even dedicated the beginning of the 24th episode of our Podcast to chatting about the book and how it could potentially be worked into a Pixar story.
San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive First Look
Of course, everything that we have discussed up to this point is complete speculation, so today we were ecstatic to learn that we’ll be getting our first official glimpse of Toy Story That Time Forgot on July 24, 2014 (11:15 AM – 12:15 PM PST) at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) (Room 6A). The details from the SDCC site note –
Calling all Toy Story fans! ABC and Disney•Pixar present an exclusive first look at the upcoming holiday special, Toy Story That Time Forgot. Executive producer Galyn Susman (Toy Story of TERROR!), director Steve Purcell (Brave), and head of story Derek Thompson (WALL•E) give you an exclusive inside look at the sketches, storyboards, and concepts that went into the making of this Disney•Pixar special!
We can’t wait to hear more about the from the Pixar team as they shed light on the Toy Story special released this holiday season (the official date has yet to be announced). From our earlier post in January, below is what we know so far.
UPDATED July 21 – In addition to the poster for Toy Story That Time Forgot being released this afternoon, we have also learned that Michael Giacchino will be moderating the SDCC event. We have to believe this means that Giacchino will be scoring the prehistoric-inspired television special. Additionally, attendees of the SDCC event will receive this poster as well as have an opportunity to have it autographed by Steve, Galyn, and Derek at the ABC convention booth in the main hall at 1:00 PM PST. More details and the official poster can be found here.
During a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang finds themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room.
Cast and Crew
Trixie looks to be a main focal character in Toy Story That Time Forgot and many of our other favorites characters will be back as well with Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Kevin McKidd as Reptillus Maximus, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and Joan Cusack as Jessie.
Be sure to catch up on the Forum community’s discussion on Toy Story That Time Forgot and let us know your thoughts on the upcoming project and SDCC event.
