Director Mark Andrews is headed to Scotland once again! Academy Award & Golden Globe winner Andrews will be spending two weeks working with students at The Glasgow School of Art, April 8-19 2013. The Glasgow School of Art is internationally recognized as one of Europe’s foremost university-level institutions for creative education and research in fine art, design, and architecture.

This will be the first time a filmmaker from Pixar will mentor the students. “We are delighted that a filmmaker of Mark’s caliber has offered to come and work with our students sharing his considerable experience and expertise with the next generation of creative talent. Pixar is a world-leading animation film company and the insight Mark will give to our students will be invaluable as they develop their own practice,” noted Director of the Glasgow School of Art, Professor Seona Reid.
Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop extended the invitation to Andrews after a visit to Pixar Animation Studios during Scotland Week in 2012.
“Mark Andrews is one of Hollywood’s hottest talents, and I am thrilled that he has accepted my invitation to come to Scotland to work with students here. The opportunity to learn from such a hugely successful and experienced filmmaker is very rare indeed, and I have no doubt that it will be a valuable one. This skills-sharing and mentoring program could not have happened without Brave and the resultant strong links between Disney•Pixar and Scotland. It is a tangible result of that engagement and my visit to Pixar Studios during Scotland Week last year.” said Ms. Hyslop.
Andrews, whose ancestors came from Torridon in the Highlands said “Scotland is the most beautiful and inspiring land that I know. The rolling hills, the sense of deep-rooted mystery, and most of all, the people, are rich with stories. ‘Brave’ could not have been made without Scotland, and I’m thrilled to come to The Glasgow School of Art to give back to the people and the place that so moved me.”
With Andrews’ storytelling ability and artistic direction this will be an incredible experience for all the new up-and-coming young talent at The Glasgow School of Art.
Don’t worry if you are not a student at the Glasgow School of Art, there will be only one event that will be open to the public, which will take place at the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT). Where the GFT and The Glasgow School of Art offer an unmissable opportunity to hear a talk by Mark Andrews, the director of Oscar-winning Brave. Over the years Andrews has created gripping stories in the magical world of animation with his catalog including Cars, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Brave. Mark will be showing segments from many of his animated films and taking questions from the audience. This will be the only public event during Andrews’ visit to Scotland.
The event takes place on Tuesday, April 16th and you can click HERE for more details. If you are attending any of these great events, please be sure to share your experience with us!
