The Toy Story 5 premiere was more than one of (if not) the biggest celebrations of Pixar’s beloved franchise; it was a reminder of why these characters continue to connect with audiences after 30-plus years.
Taking the red carpet were the filmmakers, directors Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris, with producer Lindsey Collins. In addition, the entire vocal cast was present, all gushing over the opportunity to be a part of this incredible animation legacy.
Throughout the evening, guests and fans speculated about whether Taylor Swift would make an appearance. Her original song for the film, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” has been breaking streaming records since its June 4 release, making her one of the most anticipated names of the night. A wave of excitement swept across the press line as whispers quickly turned into cheers when Swift arrived, smiling as she carried her childhood VHS copy of Toy Story. She later had it signed by members of the original voice cast, including singer-songwriter Randy Newman.
Adding to the night’s magic, once the screening ended and the credits began to roll, a surprise performance by Taylor Swift had guests reliving the Eras Tour, which many jokingly dubbed the “Toy Story Era.”
Swift performed her piano rendition of “I Knew It, I Knew You” before being joined by Randy Newman for a heartfelt duet of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” The unexpected collaboration brought the audience to its feet and perfectly captured the film’s emotional core.
The performance ended the night perfectly, with the songs capturing the film’s spirit. While we shared that Toy Story 5 is centered around friendship, loyalty, and the feeling of having someone in your corner when the world changes around you, Swift’s performance defined that perfectly.
The star-studded evening was memorable, all celebrating this beloved franchise that we hope has many more stories to tell.
