Pixar Soul Essence Festival Sneak Peek

Pixar fans will have their chance to watch a sneak peek of the upcoming film, Soul, including a conversation with some filmmakers during the Essence Festival of Culture tomorrow, June 27. The virtual talk with the Soul team will include director Pete Docter, co-director Kemp Powers, producer Dana Murray, and joined by Dr. Johnnetta Cole (consultant) and Jon Batiste (Jazz compositions and arrangements in Soul).

Soul follows Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher who has long dreamed of performing jazz music onstage. When Joe finally gets his chance to play at the Half Note Club an untimely accident takes him by surprise where he begins to question ‘Why am I here?’ and ‘What am I meant to be doing?’.

Co-director Kemp Powers shared with EW, “For anyone who has a profession in the creative arts, it’s an almost religious obsessiveness you have to have success and a career in the arts. At any point, no matter how happy you are doing what you do, it feels like that obsessiveness is detrimental to the rest of your life.”

To view the live-stream event, be sure to register on the Essence Festival website and tune-in tomorrow, June 27 at 6:40 PM EST.
