Pixar Animation Studios revealed details today about Soul, its second original feature film slated for theaters in 2020. Following the March 6 opening of Onward, Disney and Pixar’s Soul hits theaters one year from today on June 19, 2020.

SYNOPSIS

Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams, and your interests come from? What is it that makes you… YOU? In 2020, Pixar Animation Studios takes you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions. Soul is directed by two-time Academy Award® winner Pete Docter (Up, Inside Out) and produced by Academy Award® nominee Dana Murray (Lou short).

This is huge news and we cannot wait to learn even more about Soul — expect to learn a lot more at this years D23 Expo in August. Without being a sequel, this definitely has the feel of Inside Out and makes us wonder if this idea came to life as Pete was developing that film. It sure seems like this film is going to be a deep one — first Pete took us inside the mind, now he’s taking us on a journey of our soul — Whoa.

UPCOMING SLATE

For the batch of films which are unknown, it has been announced that Domee Shi, Brian Fee, and Marc Andrews were slated to be working on films. It should be noted that there have been rumors that Mark Andrews is no longer at Pixar (but take that with a grain of salt since it has not been confirmed). Who else may be working on a film? We’ll have to wait to find out — but today’s news of Soul, as well as looking forward to the upcoming slate of films, has us very excited about the next several years.
