Toy Story Land Officially Opens at the Shanghai Disney Resort

Toy Story Land officially opens at the Shanghai Disney Resort.

This morning as the sun began to warm the Shanghai Disney Resort, guests were welcomed into the much anticipated Toy Story Land. The resort itself opened in 2016 and is already home to the popular Toy Story Hotel — so it’s only fitting that Toy Story Land would be the first major expansion.

The opening ceremony was led by Disney chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, Chen Qun, vice mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and Zong Ming, deputy secretary-general of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

“We’re incredibly proud of the success of this one-of-a-kind, world-class destination, and we are thrilled to give our Chinese guests even more to explore and enjoy at the resort with the addition of a spectacular new land based on Pixar’s beloved Toy Story characters,” said Bob Iger, Chairman, and CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

Toy Story Land Shanghai Disney Opening

As guests step into Toy Story Land at the Shanghai Disney Resort, they will feel as if they are the size of a toy — similar to the immersive storyline of the upcoming Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Walt Disney World Resort), opening June 30.

The Disney Imagineers have done an incredible job integrating beloved Toy Story characters into the theming of the three new attractions, Slinky Dog Spin, Rex’s Racer, and Woody’s Roundup (similar to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and the upcoming Alien Swirling Saucers).

Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with their favorite characters at the Meeting Post (presumably Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Jessie), as well as dine at the Toy Box Café.

However, one of the most incredible brought-to-life buildings would have to be the recreation of Al’s Toy Barn. Guests will have the opportunity to shop in the iconic toy store from Toy Story 2, and from the looks of the photo above it appears Lotso is the toy in high demand.
