The Disneyland Half Marathon weekend is just a month away, August 31 – September 3, and the theme this year is centered around Pixar.
This timely-theming pairs perfectly with the changes underway in Disney’s California Adventure, as Paradise Pier will permanently transform into Pixar Pier (completion date unknown) as revealed by John Lasseter at the 2017 D23 Expo.
This year’s Pixar theming includes designs by Associate Creative Director at Pixar, Tasha Sounart who partnered with the runDisney team on each of the five medal designs, “For the medals, I really wanted to get across something that’s iconic about each franchise,” said Sounart, “We know the medals are really important and are one of the first things that are going to come out representing the weekend. People get really excited to see them.”

The family-friendly Disneyland 5K race medal will feature everyone’s favorite superhero, The Incredibles.
The Monsters, Inc. / Monsters University-themed medal will adorn the necks of runners who complete the Disneyland 10K. The race itself will be entirely themed around the “scare-some” pair making for a frightfully fun run.
The Disneyland Half Marathon medal features a Toy Story theme with Buzz, Woody, and Jessie running around a tower of blocks.

For runners who complete the 5th Annual Disneyland Double Dare (participating in the Disneyland 10K and Disneyland Half Marathon) will receive an additional medal featuring the iconic duo of Luxo, Jr. and the Pixar ball.
The runDisney kid’s race will be themed with adventure in mind, as each young Wilderness Explorer will earn their own Up-inspired medal. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the medal will feature a shoe badge, which was created exclusively for runDisney by Pixar graphic artist, Paul Conrad, who designed all of the Wilderness Explorer badges for the film Up.
