Its been over a decade since we were transported to Metroville and introduced to the hidden world of superheroes with The Incredibles. The upcoming sequel to the fan-favorite Pixar film was revealed during the 2014 Annual Disney Shareholder meeting with Bob Iger making the grand announcement – making The Incredibles 2 a trending topic online almost instantly.

Nearly two years after the announcement little has been revealed about the film, however, EW recently sat down with Writer/Director Brad Bird who shared the sequel is well underway, “It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it,” he said. “[We’re] trying to take it in some new directions.”

Though Brad Bird wasn’t ready to share character details or plot points of the film he noted that it will take place in a different cinematic landscape than the original film, “Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction,” Bird added. “I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself.”

It should also be noted that composer Michael Giacchino officially signed on to score The Incredibles 2 – signing his contract on a Twitter video back in November 2015. Giacchino definitely isn’t a stranger to Pixar or to Brad Bird, as he has composed both The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The Incredibles 2 theatrical release is on June 21, 2019.
