Radiator Springs 500 and a Half Logo

UPDATED: The full 6:20 second short is now available to watch on Disney Movies Anywhere – enjoy! Our full review of the short can be read here.

Well, racing fans, after awaiting the release of Pixar’s off-road adventure for months, we now have an official release date – May 20, 2014 – yes, that soon. In the Radiator Springs 500½ clip released by Yahoo Movies, we find Mater decked out as a Hawaiian hula dancer, spouting off directions quite speedily. In fact, he tells the pack of five racers to…

Head right out of town, turn right off the main street there and go left there at the tractors and then you head right over them rollin’ hills, right past the cool-pool-of-tranquility, right through the beautiful tail light caverns, right through the enchanted forest and you’s right back at home!

SYNOPSIS

As a reminder, the short takes place during a Founders Day celebration on the streets of Radiator Springs.

A “leisurely drive” planned in honor of Radiator Springs’ town founder, Stanley, turns precarious as Baja pros descend on the town and challenge Lightning McQueen to an off-road race. Meanwhile, the townsfolk, led by a Stanley-costumed Mater, enjoy the planned “leisurely drive” to retrace Stanley’s original frontier route. Thinking they’re on the same course, a wrong turn sends McQueen and the Baja pros on a treacherously wild bid for survival. The misunderstanding leaves the racing professionals in awe of the “legend” of Stanley: the Original Off-Road Racer.

CAST OF CHARACTERS & SOME NEW PAINT

With any short featuring the fun-loving Mater, you can expect a lot of “costume changes” for his character, but it also seems that Radiator Springs 500½ will find a few more of our favorite characters in new paint as well. It seems that Luigi and Guido have a slight green tint while Sheriff has a really cool paint job showcasing a white hood and new enlarged sheriff star (as well as a re-positioning of his searchlights…now mounted above his headlights instead of his roof).

In addition to our favorite characters, we also get a look at some really rocking rally cars: Blue Grit, Idle Threat (complete with Mood Springs shocks), Shifty Sidewinder, and Sandy Dunes.
