Back in November 2014 during Disney’s quarterly earnings call it was revealed that John Lasseter would return to the director’s chair to create, Toy Story 4. Over the past several months it had been confirmed that the film will center around a love story – though no character confirmation was ever mentioned…until today.
At the kick-off of the 2015 D23 Expo, Good Morning America was on-hand to interview John Lasseter where he announced (in a pre-recorded video clip – embedded below) an exclusive storyline from Toy Story 4, “It’s a love story about Woody and Bo Peep.”
It will be intriguing to discover how Bo Peep will rejoin the gang as she was separated from the main group of Andy’s toys after Toy Story 2. Near the beginning of Toy Story 3, Woody said, “we’ve lost friends along the way – Wheezy and Etch and…”. Rex interjects, “Bo Peep?” Woody replies, “Yeah, even Bo…all good toys who’ve gone on to new owners.”
Though no further information regarding the film was announced during the brief clip, we anticipate that more details will be revealed during this afternoon’s D23 Panel hosted by John Lasseter on the upcoming Disney and Pixar animated films (3:00 PM PST). Toy Story 4 is set to release on June 16, 2017.
Joining John Lasseter on the film will be Pixarian Josh Cooley (announced as co-director back in March) who recently directed an Inside Out inspired short for the Blu-ray release titled, Riley’s First Date. Cooley’s creative point of view and background with screenplay writing will surely lead to a wonderful continuation of the beloved Toy Story franchise.
