The Disney Legends Awards will take place this year at the D23 Expo, continuing the 26-year tradition. Held on August 10, at 2:00 PM in Anaheim, California, the Disney Legends Awards recognize people who have made an integral contribution to The Walt Disney Company – such as Film/Television, Animation, Imagineering, Film Voice, etcetera.
The Disney Legend Award is our highest and most coveted honor,” said Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger.
The award recipients receive a handcrafted bronze statuette created by artist Andrea Favilli which shows Mickey Mouse’s arm holding a star-tipped wand – the honorees are also presented with a bronze plaque. This year, many true Disney Legends are being honored, including three with Pixar connections.
One of those visionaries receiving this high honor is Steve Jobs. Jobs changed the world of consumer electronics as the founder of Apple and was the early investor and chief executive of Pixar. After his passing in 2011, Pixar Animation Studios named its main building after Steve Jobs.
We can also start our applause as Billy Crystal and John Goodman are also being honored with The Disney Legend Award. An award that is truly fitting for these two incredible actors after the release of Monsters University. Not only have the duo found success voicing our beloved Pixar monsters but have been perfecting their craft and entertaining audiences for many years.
“It’s reserved for the extraordinary visionaries and artists behind the Disney magic, the men and women who push the limits of innovation and creativity to ensure Disney remains truly special. The eight Legends we honor this year helped create some of our most beloved characters along with exciting new worlds and thrilling attractions. They also entertained millions of people and expanded our definition of what’s possible. They are all indelible parts of our legacy, and we are proud to recognize them as true Disney Legends.”
