As we approach the June 2013 launch date for the eagerly anticipated Disney Infinity game (rumored official launch of June 18, 2013) we’ll be slowly hearing more and more about the game as well as the characters within the game. Previously we knew that the game would come with characters from Monsters University, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Incredibles – but now we’re getting a glimpse at the fourth set of characters that were previously unknown thanks to Game Informer magazine.
Game Informer has the exclusive scoop and revealed that the upcoming characters will be based on the Cars franchise. Lightning McQueen, Mater, Francesco Bernoulli, and Holley Shiftwell will join the other Disney•Pixar characters in the Disney Infinity world.

If you’re as excited as we are to get your hands on Disney Infinity, I would strongly recommend that you pick up a copy of the March 2013 issue of Game Informer as they delve into a lot of the details and have a ton of additional exclusive photos. You can subscribe annually or purchase individual issues by downloading the Game Informer app from the iTunes store.
Game Informer also notes that each set of characters (Cars, The Incredibles, etc.) is expected to offer three-to-ten hours of gameplay and also describes the two different types of power discs – circular (player buffs & inventory) and hexagonal (Toy Box customizations). They also mention that duplicate power discs can be stacked to increase the power of the items on the discs.
Here are a few more screenshots showing additional details and concept art from the game.
