Pixar has announced via Deadline that it is currently working on a short film set in the Finding Nemo universe. It was also confirmed that Ellen DeGeneres would be returning to her role as the forgetful Blue Tang, Dory.
While production details and storylines are still under wraps, it was shared that the short film has just started production. We know we can’t be the only ones wanting to see the return of Pixar short films paired with the release of their feature films. While this release strategy may be a thing of the past, Disney+ gives the studio an easier way to release shorts/series to a wider audience between the studio’s theatrical releases.
If you recall, these teaser announcements are no strangers to Pixar. In a recent Wall Street Journal article with Pete Docter, it was teased that the studio would be working on additional legacy films, including a possible Monsters, Inc. film.
