Pixar released the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 today (November 11, 2025), featuring many of our favorite Toy Story pals looking quite worried.
Could that worry be because of the impending villain, Lilypad – the new space toy, er, electronic toy? Among the trailer news, it was also revealed that Lilypad will be voiced by Greta Lee. Her sweet and confident tone is sure to contrast with her dark and controlling side – I mean, look at how mean she looks in the new Toy Story 5 poster.

LILYPAD’S DESIGN
Sure, Lilypad may sound sweet with her joyous, “Hi there, I’m Lilypad! Let’s play!” But her array of speakers (designed to look like her cheeks), microphone (left nostril), camera (right nostril), and pair of pixelated, low-density, LED screen eyes blend to be cute and unassuming. But, will she be?
We really loved that the eyes were more pixelated (like we mentioned) since it adds a slight menacing quality due to the imperfect feel.
In the real world, is it really the fault of tablets and electronic toys that they’re so engaging, luring us to pay attention to them more than our analogue toys or gadgets? Or is it the corporations behind them? Could the big-bad-corporation be revealed as the real villain in Toy Story 5? Or, is it our own faults that we’re so easily swayed and drawn to bright and shiny things?
TOY STORY 5 SCREENCAPS & OBSERVATIONS
Another thing that really caught our eye was the amazing detail in the trailer and how great the renders of the characters look. We’ll always be amazed by the crazy amount of detail that the Pixar team puts into their scenes. From the scratches on Woody’s hat to the refraction off the inside of Buzz’s imperfect plastic helmet, we always dissect the trailers with a fine-tooth comb.
We have spotted the dust in many projects, from WALL-E to Lou, but there were even more details in the dust particles this time. They were longer strands of dust, as if they came from a rug or an article of clothing. Maybe it’s always been there, but something stood out to us.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
A few other items that we wanted to highlight.
- In one shot, it appears there is an animal cage (maybe a lizard’s) in the background with the name ‘Sammy’ on it. Have we ever seen this before? Hmm.
- The music featured in the trailer is “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS—you can watch the music video on YouTube.
- The Pixar website also released an updated Synopsis (pasted below), indicating that the prior Producer, Jessica Choi, was replaced by Lindsey Collins, a longtime Pixar employee and frequent collaborator with Director Andrew Stanton.
- Another small rabbit hole that we went down is in the screencap of Buzz and Woody looking frightened. There are small lines drawn underneath Buzz’s eyes. To my knowledge, we’ve never seen him have undereye lines – his eye either shows the bottom lid, or rounds out into his body. I was checking screenshots from TS 2-4… but ultimately the underlines aren’t in the trailer version, so I let it go. Ha!
SYNOPSIS
The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics! Directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris and produced by Lindsey Collins, “Toy Story 5” opens only in theaters on June 19, 2026.
