The nominations for the 48th Annual Annie Awards have been revealed with Pixar Animation Studios receiving a whopping 20 nominations across 14 categories for Onward, Soul, and the Disney+ short Lamp Life. The Annie Awards are presented to those who excel in the animation field and are voted upon by professionals of ASIFA Hollywood (International Animated Film Association). Unfortunately, there were no nominations for any Pixar SparkShort films, though Out and Burrow are on the Academy Award Animated Short List with the official nominees to be announced on March 15, 2021.
In addition, The June Foray Award, which is given to individuals in recognition of a significant and benevolent impact within the industry of animation will be awarded to animator and art director, Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi (Tonko House) for his work initiating the Totoro Forest Project as well as “Sketchtravel,” a sketchbook passed from one artist to another through 12 countries over more than 4 years, benefitting charities that the participating artists determine.
