Last October, we announced the exclusive first look at the upcoming Cars Toon, To Protect and Serve which finds Radiator Springs in disarray as Sheriff goes on vacation leaving two rookie cops in charge. Like most Cars Toons, it seems like it will be packed with fast-moving action and hilarity. The official synopsis mentions:
When Sheriff takes a mandatory vacation, two overzealous rookies from County take over his duties in Radiator Springs. Bent on making a good impression to score commendations, the rookies over-do every aspect of their jobs, finding “crimes” at every turn and turning the quiet little town into a hotbed of taped-off crime scenes. No one is safe and everyone’s a suspect until Sheriff senses an imbalance and returns home to right the “justice” that’s been served.
Although the official air date for the Toon has yet to be announced, our friends at Take Five a Day have noticed a three-pack of upcoming die-cast cars containing Lightning McQueen, Mike, and Didi (the two rookie police officers).

For those with young readers at home, you can also purchase the To Protect and Serve: Step Into Reading, Level 2 book (geared towards 4 to 6-year-old readers) featuring a very high-level look at the story as well as images from the short…like the hilarious Police Line Tape Mater shown below, or the Student Driver McQueen above. We think they should make the Police Line Tape Mater as a die-cast as well!
UPDATED: There was a Disney Store die-cast To Protect and Serve set released as well – check out our review post, here.
The To Protect and Serve Mattel or Disney Store sets are no longer available, but you can search eBay for the sets – click here to search eBay.
