The Oscar race is right around the corner. A flood of “For Your Consideration” ads is starting to be released in various film industry magazines, such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. The ads are directed primarily towards members of the voting groups for the award shows in the entertainment industry, such as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in an effort for the studios to do one last push to garner a nomination for their films.
In a recent issue of The Hollywood Reporter, the first (of what we hope will be many) Monsters University “For Your Consideration” advertisement was released along with details surrounding what categories Pixar Animation Studios is pushing for. The ad, which was posted by Awards Daily, not only shows that Pixar would like consideration for Best Animated Feature, but the studio has also listed a consideration for Best Original Score by Randy Newman.
The Monsters University score was a great pairing to the movie and we of course feel that it certainly deserves a place among the others as Randy Newman added his usual moments of lightness (to match the scene) and moments of beauty (during the movie’s more touching moments). - UP has been the only Pixar film to win the Oscar for Best Original Score.
- Brave was only nominated for Best Animated Feature, which it won.
- Randy Newman won the Oscar for Best Original Song – “We Belong Together” – for Toy Story 3.
- Randy Newman won the Oscar for Best Original Song – “If I Didn’t Have You” – for Monsters, Inc.. Newman was also nominated for Best Original Score but lost to Howard Shore for The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring.
