Cars Land has been open for over a month now and the crowds keep growing. With all the excitement about this wonderful expansion to Disney’s California Adventure, we thought that we would share some fun facts about Cars Land and its attractions. Disney Parks Blog and DAPsMagic have posted some great fun facts, below is a list of some of our favorites:
During the Cars Land groundbreaking did you know that John Lasseter showed off his graffiti skills and spray painted Lighting McQueen across the parking lot that became part of the 12-acre expansion that is now Cars Land? In this video posted on YouTube (via Michigan1776), you can watch snippets of this groundbreaking day.
The hard hat that is worn by John Lasseter was created by none other than the legendary Chip Foose – the flame details resemble those on Ramone.
- Larry the Cable guy recorded seven songs for the attraction featuring Billy Hill and Hillbillies who are a favorite among guests at the Disneyland Resort.
- License plates on the baby tractors have letters that represent the initials and birthdays of the key contributors to the Cars Land project from Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios. (If any of our readers has a photo of one of the license plates, we’d love to see it.)
- At more than 280,000 square feet of rock work, the Ornament Valley mountain range is the largest rockwork created in a domestic Disney theme park.
- Every year, each ride vehicle on Radiator Springs Racers will travel approximately 36,000 miles – which is more than 14 trips down the original Route 66 – I wonder if the ‘ghostlight‘ makes an appearance on the ride?
- All 22 tractors in Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree each have a unique look and personality to them.
- Cars Land “Cadillac Mountain Range” in Ornament Valley stands approximately 125 feet tall at the highest peak.
- If you are nuts about Cars, perhaps you’ll recognize the tail fins of the mountain range – from left to right, Cadillac tail fins from 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962.
- The Walt Disney Imagineers devoted more than 28,000 hours to designing the structural system for the rockwork and Radiator Springs Racers show building.
- Radiator Springs Race vehicles come in eight colors — each with its own personality. The six-passenger convertible features a male or female face, with different detail in the eyes and lips.
